yes, you can turn machine off, it will hold the ice you have till morning and if the machine is full of ice it will switch off and stay off until you take ice out, so its to your advantage to have more storage space

this machine is usually used for small bars, restaurants etc., you can go smaller then in peak season and a rugby final on tv you may run into trouble
